Trestel out of season: autumn and winter by the sea

Trestel out of season: a quiet beach, sea walking, birdwatching, markets and our autumn and winter 2026-27 rates, from €300 a week 50 m from the beach.

From October to the end of March, Trestel is a different place: the beach goes quiet, the light comes in low, and our three rentals switch to very low season rates, from €300 a week (or €60 a night for a short stay) at Apartment 24. It is a lovely season for walking, watching the sea and taking your time. Here is what stays open, what to do when there is a nip in the air, and our autumn and winter 2026-2027 rates, period by period.

What changes at Trestel once summer is over

The beach is still there: you will meet walkers, joggers and the wetsuited longe-côte group wading along the shore. The council says animals are banned from the Trestel and Royau beaches in summer, from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm, so in autumn and winter your dog can join you on the sand. If you travel with yours, this is the time to come.

The tourist information point at Trestel, in the water-sports centre, only opens from 15 June to 15 September. Outside that period, the council says information is available at the village library (médiathèque) or the post office counter. And you can always ask us.

To see what the bay looks like before you come, the council runs a Trestel webcam on its website, refreshed every minute.

Things to do at Trestel in autumn and winter

Walk: the beach, the coastal path, the marsh

The GR34 coastal path runs past our doors. One way it leads to Port-Blanc and Plougrescant; the other to Port-Le-Goff, Perros-Guirec and Ploumanac'h. Out of season the path is muddier and the wind sharper: sturdy walking boots and a windproof jacket will see you through. Our GR34 guide from Trestel covers the sections from the beach.

Close to the beach, the Trestel marsh can be explored on boardwalks. It is one of the Côtes-d'Armor département's nature sites, and winter is a fine time to visit: according to the bird survey carried out by GEOCA for the département council, the marsh serves as a winter roost for more than a hundred reed buntings (186 birds were counted in December 2015), and the wet meadows draw common snipe, sometimes several dozen of them. Bring binoculars and come at the end of the day.

Swim (yes, really)

The sea does not close. Longe-côte, a group walk through the sea at waist or chest height, takes place at Trestel every week, all year round, with the Saun'Activ Ocean association: Mondays at 10 am, Thursdays at 7 pm and Saturdays at 10.30 am, according to the council's leisure page. Wetsuits, boots and gloves can be hired; arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to sign up.

For surfers, Brittany Tourism says the surf clubs and the water-sports centre on the beach run sessions all year round. The Trestel Surf Club gives lessons and hires out boards and paddleboards.

Warm up: the Forum at Trégastel

After a blustery morning, nothing beats heated seawater. The Forum at Trégastel, about 25 minutes away, is open all year: a seawater pool at 29 °C, hammams, saunas, a jacuzzi, and a gym with a sea view. The relaxation area is for over-16s only. Note that Lannion-Trégor Communauté has announced a technical closure from 16 to 20 November 2026 inclusive.

Market shopping, all year round

On Thursdays, the big Lannion market, about 15 minutes away, has its food stalls out in the morning; on Sunday mornings, all year round, another market sets up on Place de Caërphilly near the station. Lannion's covered market opens Tuesday to Saturday mornings. On Saturday mornings, Penvénan, the next village along, has its market too. Every day and every address is in our guide to the Pink Granite Coast markets.

Then there is the farm run by our son Guillaume and his wife Aurélie, Dolmen & Potager, at Coat-Mez, here in the commune. It is open all year, except at Christmas. Winter is the season for yellow and purple carrots, turnips, parsnips, swedes, salsify and Jerusalem artichokes: perfect soup after a beach walk.

Rainy days

It does rain sometimes; this is Brittany. We have gathered our ideas in What to do in Trévou-Tréguignec when it rains. For a longer day out, Ploumanac'h is lovely in winter, and our Pink Granite Coast page lists other outings.

Which rental for a winter stay?

Apartment 24, for watching the sea

Fifty metres from the beach, Apartment 24 looks out to sea from the living area and the balcony. It is very well insulated, and the bed is made up for your arrival. Electricity includes 8 kWh a day; beyond that it is €0.25 per kWh, a rare extra of around €2–3 per 24 hours in the heating season, depending on the weather. Ideal for two, with short stays from 3 nights.

Les Mouettes, for coming with your dog

A hundred metres from the beach, Les Mouettes is a detached house with external insulation, and a sea view from the main bedroom and the upstairs terrace. The enclosed garden is a real asset with a dog (welcome by prior agreement), and the GR34 runs right past the house. Electricity includes 56 kWh with a meter reading; in the heating season, allow around €3–4 per 24 hours depending on your needs.

La P'tite Maison, for light and the village on foot

At 1.2 km from the beach and 300 m from the shops, La P'tite Maison has an atelier-style glass partition and a large south-west-facing bay window that lets in the afternoon sun, precious when the days are short. The village shop, the organic bakery, the chemist and the post office counter are all within walking distance, which counts once the evenings draw in.

Good to know before you book

  • The village shop stays open out of season, with shorter hours than in July and August, according to the council's shops page. To find out which restaurants will be open during your stay, ask us.
  • No commitment until you are sure: we send you a proposal, which you are free to accept or not. The 30% deposit is only due once you book.
  • Quick replies: we often answer within the hour, and always the same day. Send us your dates.
